Glitterbox Opening Party Was A Disco House Heaven

Monday, May 8, 2023

The best house and disco experience on the planet returned to Hï Ibiza to resume their storied Sunday night residency

With a freshly updated show that perfectly balanced the flamboyance of Glitterbox with our future-facing venue, the Glitterbox family reunion was as raucously exhilarating as we’ve come to expect from the island’s most inclusive dancefloor.

The iconic Glitterbox dancers were back with reimagined new imagery from respected artist Haris Nukem, and of course, the music programming was on another stratosphere.

Dave Lee ZR’s deep understanding of disco, funk, and house music made for an expansive set that got the Glitterbox crowd moving to his mix of spacey disco house goodness. Next up, The Shapeshifters hybrid style of disco and house produced an invigorating set of archetypal Glitterbox sounds. The updated for 2023 VIP remix of dance classic “Lola’s Theme”, was a highlight, having only been released on Glitterbox Records 48 hours before the Opening Party.

Hands were in the air, and the whole room was singing along as the powerful, soulful vocals of Julie McKnight reverberated around the Theatre. The singer delivered a succession of empowering club anthems live for the Glitterbox family, including house masterpiece “Finally”.

Roger Sanchez, a key pillar of the international house scene, unleashed his unmatched technical mixing skills and euphoric selections. The legendary selector had the Glitterbox dancers and the crowd alike reaching new levels of energy.

UK institution Basement Jaxx closed out the Theatre with a tour de force of their own productions and perfectly chosen selections. With a catalogue as rich as the London duo, it’s no surprise that the Theatre shimmered with an infectious elation.

Defected Broadcasting House presenter and DJ extraordinaire Sophie Lloyd got the Club Room going before genre-defying DJ / producer Riva Starr took the reins. Riva Starr’s jaw-dropping catalogue of hits and club favourites brought the intensity in the Club Room to a new level.

Tastemaker, pioneer and visionary. The Club Room was in the hands of a true master for the final hours as Detroit legend Carl Craig stepped into the booth. His kaleidoscopic set took the Club Room on an intergalactic journey through all mutations of house, disco and beyond.

The Wild Corner was jumping all night long as the most infamous bathroom on the planet played host to the house selections of London institution Fat Tony and the return of Ibiza’s favourite supergroup, Melon Bomb.

Glitterbox will return every Sunday night until October 1st, inviting the very best talent from across the worlds of house, disco and beyond.
